Esteban Trueba tries to kill him for taking Blanca's virginity, but succeeds only in cutting off several of his fingers. He is Alba's father, but sees her only occasionally and under the pretense that he is a close friend. Pedro Tercero becomes a famous folk singer who preaches revolution, and then a government official. He and Esteban Trueba are reconciled after they must save one another on different occasions. He and Blanca eventually escape to Canada with the Senator's help.

I love to watch older shows and movies as a result of this it allowed me to value House of the Spirits immensely.
I feel that older films have more to offer as for having a meaning not mainly for entertainment purposes. This is by far my favorite piece of work that we have looked over in class. Clara was a very warm hearted,encouraging and genuine loving.
The poor class, including the peasants of Tres Marias and the socialist party members, has continual resentment towards the other class, which is the wealthy aristocratic class. The wealthy division of the novel shows little humanity towards the poor, treats the poor. Her elegant style laces easily between the two different points of view in the book: the masculine grandfather clinging to the past, and his forward-thinking, softhearted granddaughter.
All of Allende's characters are complex and beautifully recognized. This marvelous novel is a great literary achievement. From the first lines of The House of the Spirits, Allende uses the technique of a feminized magical realism to pull the reader into a political-historical novel.
