Byrd, as it's the only gas station in Shenandoah National Park. While a seemingly infinite number of overlooks line Skyline Drive, there are only five that are truly worth adding to the list for their scenic beauty.
It's here that visitors can get views of the Blue Ridge as well as the valleys without hiking or doing so much as lacing up hiking boots.

Onlookers will be able to see all the way to the Alleghenies on a clear day. As the longest overlook on Skyline Drive, visitors will be able to drive from one end to the other to see the entire view. This gives dramatic views of the Shenandoah River below as well as Massanutten Mountain and the Alleghenies. Around this switchback curve, Spitler Knoll sits at the bend in the road, giving astounding views of Page Valley and the Shenandoah Valley. The town seen below is the town of Stanley, which resides in Page Valley.

There are nearly 70 overlooks that offer stunning views of the Shenandoah Valley to the west or the rolling Piedmont to the east.
Be sure you will clear Marys Rock Tunnel mile This is the measured clearance for both lanes of the road. RVs, camping trailers, and horse trailers are welcome, but be prepared to shift into low gear. Deer, black bear, wild turkey, and a host of other woodland animals call Shenandoah home and regularly cross Skyline Drive in their daily travels.
Watch carefully for these animals who may dart across your path without warning. Speed limits are reduced in developed areas such as campgrounds and picnic grounds. With over 75 scenic overlooks along the way, most people allow three-four hours to drive the mile length of Skyline Drive. Shenandoah National Park is one of about park service units that charge an entry fee. Hiking, camping, picnicking, horseback riding, fishing, photography, bird watching, backpacking, wildlife observation, ranger programs— just to name a few!
Shenandoah offers over miles of hiking trails, including miles of the Appalachian Trail. Trails range from short, easy walks to long, rugged rock scrambles. Click here for more information. All park streams are open to catch-and-release fishing; additionally, some designated streams are open to harvest. Special regulations are in place and a Virginia state fishing license is required.
